So much to do…. So little time….

Less than a month to Christmas....  it’s going incredibly fast.

I’m starting to fall behind in plans for the bike trip so I’ll have to spend more time getting things going.  We still need a support vehicle. I still have to finalize the route.  Most of all I still have to get in shape. Life just keeps getting in the way. It’s time to start setting weekly goals in the planning department. At least I’ve got most of my Christmas shopping done.

For the past week or so I’m starting to experience a lot of aches and pains in my joints and bones. A lot of stiffness after I’ve been sitting for a while or sleeping. Once I get moving things settle down and I’m fine.... it’s just those first few steps. My understanding is that a lot of it is probably due to the Hormone Deprevation Therapy.  I have to make sure I’m taking my supplements.  I’ve been so busy doing other things I haven’t taken the time to organize that and so haven’t been taking them.  I think that’s starting to catch up to me too.  Other than that I’m feeling pretty good.

My workouts are going well. I pushed it a little more this week. Same number of weight workouts.... a little more cardio.... I’m not getting any stronger, but I am able to recover much quicker. That is the most important thing right now. The strength will probably never increase much.... trying to keep what I have and speed my recovery time are the main goals. I feel good on the bike. It’s now time to set up the trainer and do a little more riding in a controlled environment as well as increasing the number of workouts.

Til next time.....

What a day…..

For the middle of November it was an absolutely fabulous day today....  Sunny, just a light breeze and nice and warm.

Since the weather was so good today I decided to hop on the mountain bike and take a spin....  I donned my new CCC cycling gear and headed out for a short ride.  I felt pretty good so decided I would test the legs and the lungs by doing the Pavan Park Hill.  The last few times I rode the hill I was gasping at the top.... It hasn’t defeated me.... but it has battered me.  Today was my day!!  Sixty clicks down the hill and a midrange gear back up.... I was sweating pretty good at the top, but I had lot’s of legs and wind left.  It felt FANTASTIC.  I decided to go a little further so I stayed on the flats for the rest of the ride and put in a total of 25K.  I managed to get it done in just over an hour.  Not too bad for not doing it on a regular enough basis.  The best part is how good it felt, and how good I still feel.  The last few rides around 20K had me beat for a couple of days. Not this time.  I think I’m finally starting to show some improvement....

Til next time....

Just My Luck….

Well, after a somewhat entertaining morning getting some work done around the house (thanks Brent and Warren), my afternoon started off with a BANG!… Literally.  I headed out for a little drive to get a few errands done and then a solid crunch as the back end of the car took a good shot. No damage to the vehicle that hit us, but $3000 worth to my poor little car… Some day my luck will change.... but then again, if I didn’t have bad luck I probably wouldn’t have any....

I managed to get another workout in this afternoon....  it felt pretty good again ( must have taken too many breaks… thanks guys ) So next week I’m going to try adding more to the workouts and up the cardio somewhat.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get on my bike for a few rides - indoors or out - it doesn’t matter to me.... although if it stays as windy as it is right now I’ll be happy to stay indoors.

Have a Great Weekend everyone!

The cold is here… for a while….

The weather has been so mixed over the past few weeks.... and with that comes flu season.  With my body not up to full speed, I managed to grab on to a bug at the first opportunity and it really kicked my butt....  I was so drained that I spent a few days in bed and then 3 more taking two hour naps frequently through the day.  I’m finally feeling better again.... well, as better as I can grin

I’ve been rather slack in my workouts because of being sick, but I’m back at it.  Even did a double workout last Thursday to make up for missing my Monday workout. It was tough, but I pushed through it and didn’t feel too bad on Friday.  Yesterday I felt pretty good again and had another good workout. I was even able to add a little more cardio.  I wish I could get back on my bike, but the cold just gets right to the bone these days, so best to stay inside.  I’ll get the trainer out next week ( I hope ) and start doing some indoor training.  Not as much fun, but I really need to do some work to be ready for May....  the time is going way too fast, and my strength and endurance improvement is going way too slow.  I’m going to try to push it a little more next week to see what this body can take.

The “hot flashes” are starting to become stronger and more frequent again.... not sure if it’s because I’m tired or if I just notice them more some times. Other than that, and the increased body fat and decreased muscle mass I’m doing great.  The spirits are up and down, but thankfully mostly up.  I do really notice that when the hot flashes increase that I also become much more emotional. Not such a bad thing.... HUGS for everyone!!!

Til next time.....

It’s amazing….

It’s amazing what takes place in your head when you have cancer.... for the past 3 weeks I have had little aches and pains.  One in particular was causing a lot of concern.  It started with a little abdominal pain - around the site of my lymph node surgery.  At first I thought it was just a strain from working out… as the weeks progressed the pain increased.  I talked to my family doctor and he didn’t think it was anything other than maybe some swelling due to the lymph node surgery.  After getting the results of my PSA test on Tuesday and talking to the urologist, who stated that it was NOT due to the cancer, it is subsiding.  Probably got worse just because of the games a mind can play....  Today I feel great!!  Still have a few aches and pains, but the worry is far less.

Today people are complaining about it being windy.... Nah, it’s just a breeze.  Life is great.  Let’s get on with it!!
