Alberta Fire Fighters Conference

I got the opportunity to talk to a large group of Fire Fighters from southern Alberta last night....  at the Southern Alberta Fire Fighters Conference.

I was invited to be the keynote speaker at the event.  I wasn’t sure what to expect.... I’ve talked to a lot of small groups of people - many during my bike ride and twice since.  This was a much larger crowd.  I knew a few people in attendance, and Cindy was there by my side to give me encouragement.  I was prepared to show some pictures along with my talk, but the number of people and the seating arrangement just didn’t seem to work for setting it up. Instead I just did my talk....  It would be better with the photo’s, but I think it went well anyway.  I pointed everyone to my web site to see the photos if they are interested.  I’m sure some will drop by.... (if you do, drop me an e-mail)

Cindy and I had stopped in at the convention late yesterday afternoon.... unfortunately they were already tearing down the displays to set up for the supper and dance....  We talked to a few people who said that attendance good.  I wish we had made it down a little earlier.... I would have liked to see the displays and talk to some of the companies involved.... always looking for sponsors for upcoming events.

The supper last night was great.... as was the company at our table.  After the meal there were some presentations to various departments.... then it was my turn to speak. I was introduced by Deputy Chief Mike Ross of the Lethbridge Fire Department.... as I went up to speak, I could feel the sweat start to roll.... not even a ‘Hot Flash’ this time....  I never prepared my talks - it would just confuse me.  I just decided to start talking and see where it took me.  I think I did okay.... and covered most of the things I wanted to say....  After my talk I was presented with a couple of gifts.... There had been a 50/50 draw in which the tickets sold out....  Cycle for Life was the recipient of the proceeds from the draw.... I was also presented with a gift for speaking.... A very touching statuette of a fire fighter and Jesus hugging....  I shed a few tears when I saw it.... Afterwards I was approached by a number of people who expressed their thanks and shared touching stories with me.... I seemed to have touched at least a few people.  Thank you all for your kind words and for sharing parts of your lives with me.... it truly means a lot!!

Until next time....

All 70 Days Now Online….

I finally got it done… Pictures from every day of my ride are now online.

Not every picture is there.... but a good sampling from each of the days is ready to be viewed....  I just don’t have the space available to upload the other 2000 photos....  I will now start working on some of the video footage that was shot by media and by some of the support crew.  Hopefully I will get that figured out in the next couple of weeks.

Now I have to start getting my photos and videos together to put on to a DVD....  I can’t wait to see it all together....

Until next time....

Lot’s Accomplished This Week….

This has been a fairly productive week....

Tuesday night I talked about my bike ride to the local Lion’s Club members....  It went quite well.  They were a good audience.  It was fun to talk about the ride.... to relive a lot of special moments.  It is especially gratifying to talk to people who are genuinely interested in my experience.  Thanks to all the Lion’s who attended.  I had a great time!

Wednesday morning I went in for my tattoo....  I talked with the artist, and after trying very hard to complete the tattoo that I came up with, we made a few changes and came up with a similar but more easily done design.... it still holds the elements that I wanted.  I think it turned out great.... Thanks Shaun.

This is what the actual tattoo looks like....

The tattoo is on my left calf.... It needs a few ‘Fixes’… but they can’t be done for a few weeks.... when it’s all done, I’ll post another picture.....  Then we’ll see who notices the fix or fixes....

I have managed to get a few things done that I have been putting off for a while too....  Still a lot of things to catch up on, but I’m getting there.... slowly.... but then I’m never in a rush any more.... just living life as it comes....

Welcome to October….

Here we are in October already....  Wow have these past couple of months gone by fast....

I’ve got a few more pictures on line.... just posted them a short time ago.... I think I’m up to day 37 now....  just over half way!!

I’ve been debating over whether or not to get a tattoo to commemorate my ride.... I finally decided to work on a design and came up with:

Hopefully it will work out....

I have two speaking engagements coming up this month.... One this coming Tuesday (Oct.3) with the local Lion’s Club and one later this month (Oct. 21) at the Southern Alberta Fire Department Conference....  I’m looking forward to both.

I’m also trying to get all my pictures and some of the video footage that was shot along the trip put into a DVD presentation....  Hopefully I can get it started this month as well....  I have done a few quick slideshow’s for myself.... but I don’t have the time or knowledge to get a nice finished project.... so I’ll leave that up to more experienced people.

Until next time....
