What’s Up???

It’s been a fairly busy couple of weeks.... now if I could only remember what happened!!

I was due for an injection (ADT) on the 16th of March.... With the docs approval we skipped it in the hopes of giving my body a rest from the side effects of the injection. I had my PSA levels checked and as of March 23 they are still at 0.2 This is a good thing....the big test will be the next one.  After being off the medication for 2 months I’m hoping my PSA levels stay low....or don’t rise much....but we’ll just deal with that in a couple of months.

So far there hasn’t been much change in the side effects....other than I seem to get ‘night sweats’ more often than before.  But then the ‘hot flashes’ always seemed to get worse during the last couple of weeks before getting my injections....so I’m hoping that’s all that is happening..... Joint pains are still the same - not better or worse. I guess the next few weeks will give me a better idea of what is to come.

I’ve managed to get all my paperwork in order to go ahead with my WCB case.... New evidence has been forwarded to the review board, and we will await their decision.  I’m pretty sure they will deny the claim again....at which point we will go forward to the Appeals Commission. Thankfully I have an advocate to make sure things are done right.... I’m pretty tired of all the run around, and it’s nice to have someone working on my side.

Lance Armstrong and Eddy Merckx will be in Calgary from June 22-24th.... They are taking part in the ’Tour of Courage‘ for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.  They will be riding on Saturday and Sunday to help raise money for the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. I was hoping to get into the ‘Summit Ride’ with them, but it is already sold out.... So now I’m working on the ‘Community Ride’. Check out the Tour of Courage web site at http://www.tourofcourage.ca.

I’m still trying to organize an Edmonton to Lethbridge ride for September.... hopefully I can start to focus on that over the next few weeks.

I took some of the T-shirts that I collected during my cross Canada bike ride along with a lot of patches I received and am having a quilt made from them.... I have been told that it is nearly done and looks fantastic.  I’m pretty excited to see the finished project....  I’ll post a picture of it when I get it.

I’m sure a lot more has happened....but that’s enough for now (at least until I can remember more - wink LOL)

Until next time....

Colonoscopy….

I had the colonoscopy yesterday.... Now is that ever an interesting event!  The colonoscopy only lasted about 25 minutes....unfortunately, there is a 2 day prep for it.

It all started on Monday.... Basically the prep is a two day CLEAR liquid diet.... with the bonus laxitives each night.  Now that is a treat.... Not only do you not get to eat, you get to live in the washroom for most of each night.  Although, I must admit, day two was much easier to handle than day one.

Yesterday went quite well.... Up just a little earlier than normal, after a relatively quiet night.  Off to the hospital for 8AM to check in.  The colonoscopy was scheduled for 9:15AM but didn’t start until almost 10AM. The drugs were great and did as I was told they would....  I remained awake for the procedure, but most of it is unremembered.  I do recall a few things, but not everything.  I remember watching near the end of the procedure, but very little or nothing of the beginning...probably a good thing!!  Things went well - at least as far as I know - but I guess I’ll have to wait to see what the doc has to say.... I do know that I have to go through this all again in 3 months.  Yippeeee .... NOT!!

I was home by 11 AM, and after relaxing a bit - which is hard to do when you have a dog that has been locked up all morning and wants nothing more than to play with you.... So, I took her out for a short walk in the afternoon.... That was quite the experience.... I managed okay, but felt like I was in a fog at times and floating at other times...so it was a short walk and then back home to lie down again.... I watched a movie while I rested.... I don’t remember anything about it other than things were moving around on the screen....I didn’t really sleep, but floated around as if in a dream for a few hours.... I felt a lot better after that, and HUNGRY....so I had some left overs and crashed again for another hour.... I then went out to visit at one of the fire halls for a short time.... then back home where I drifted in and out of sleep until bed time....

Things are much better today… other than feeling like I’ve been kicked in the stomach.... I’m still feeling a bit tired, but at least I know what I’m doing now.

Tomorrow I was supposed to get my next Eligard (ADT) injection....but that is now on hold as I get to take a break from it for a while....at least as long as my PSA levels stay down. I’ll get them checked at the end of next week and then watch them every few months until they climb to around 10....then back on to bring them back down.  I’m sure my body will appreciate the break from the side effects… I know I will!

Until next time.....

WOW…. Am I Sore!!!

I went to watch a few guys from work play indoor soccer on Monday morning....  I had intended on just watching!  They didn’t have a great turnout, so I decided to play for a bit.... BIG MISTAKE!!!

After not working out for quite a while.... being more than a few pounds overweight.... having NOT run in almost a year.... I went out and put everything into the game… 4 on 4....  Well, if any of you have played indoor soccer, you know that there should be 6 players on the floor at any one time.... a Keeper and 5 on the field....  With only 4 of us - a keeper and 3 players - there was a lot of running needed.... Well, after the first little jog down field, I was so tired that I tripped jogging back.... OUCH!!!  Then I continued to TRY to run.... NOPE, can’t do it any more....  I just have to work out more!!  I was absolutely exhausted in the first few minutes....  I took turns in net to try to get my energy back up.... It really didn’t help for long.... my coordination was way off.... and I couldn’t run fast or far....

It was a blast though....It was nice to be having a laugh with friends and co-workers....

Unfortunately I am now paying for my enjoyment.... I’m stiff and SORE! My small trip has turned into a very stiff and sore knee with a huge bruise....  What we won’t do for a little fun....  It will be a while before I try that stunt again - and I plan on working much harder each day to get a good workout in....hopefully the next time I play any sport, I will be in a LOT better shape!

Thanks guys for letting me play!!  I won’t forget it for a long time.... at least until the pain subsides.  LOL

Until next time....
