This Years ‘Event’….

Well, I’ve finally managed to get things rolling on this years ride....  Nothing like the cross Canada ride from 2006, but a ride none the less.

This year I am working on a four day ride from Edmonton to Lethbridge....  A little over 500 km over a four day period.  The ride is planned for September 5th through the 8th.  This years ride will hopefully raise some money for the Lethbridge Regional Hospital Foundation to put towards a radiation unit planned for the Regional Hospital.

Having a radiation unit in Lethbridge would be a great thing.... People could receive their radiation treatments here rather than having to travel to Calgary. This would allow them to be at home during treatment rather than living in Calgary for a week or more at a time or even traveling daily to Calgary for treatment.  I spent just over 7 weeks in Calgary - traveling home on the weekends. I was lucky to have my sisters in Calgary to stay with and helped through the process.  I was also lucky to have help with a vehicle to make the trips to Calgary and the daily trips to the hospital.  All that time in Calgary for only 15 minutes a day at the hospital....  Time much better spent at home!!

I will post more details in the coming weeks..... We are still in the planning stages and looking for support for the ride and donations for the LRH Foundation.  The one other thing I do know....I won’t be riding alone!!  This year we hope to make it a group ride. More to come.

Until next time.....

Can’t Wear All the T-Shirts…..

During my bike ride across Canada I was given a number of T-shirts from various Fire Services.... I could have just worn them, but after seeing what can be done with them, I decided to see if someone could help me out with a project.

During fund raising for The Ride for the Roses last year, a fellow CCC member was raffling off a couple of quilts made from T-shirts he had collected at previous rides - both the Ride for the Roses and The Tour of Hope.  They looked incredible.

I looked through my T-shirt collection and picked out 8 that could be used for such a project....  It took a while, but with the help of my father, I was able to find someone to put together a quilt for me.

As you can see, she used some of the patches that I had collected as well, to make this incredible keepsake!  The photo really doesn’t do it justice.

Until next time....

What’s it like being off the ADT??….

My last Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT) treatment was December 22nd.... I was scheduled for an injection March 16th.... so it’s been just over three weeks off of treatment.... Unfortunately (or fortunately - depending on how you look at it), the treatment continues to work for a while after it’s stopped.  Therefore, I really haven’t noticed a lot of changes yet.... although my ‘Hot Flashes’ are MUCH more intense lately....  but not as frequent.... Is that different??  Not really, as that’s the way it was for the first year.

So, things haven’t really changed yet.... still hoping that the ‘side effects’ settle down, and that the prostate cancer stays in check.... Why can’t I have the best of both?!?!

Now if this weather would settle into some nice warm sunshine without the high winds.... I could get back on my bike.... I’ve only had one real bike ride so far this year. A nice 20km ride including a couple of good climbs - on a nice sunny day with only a light breeze.  It was THE perfect day for a ride.... Not too hot or too cold....  I REALLY miss riding....

Until next time....
