Site Updates….

I finally got around to updating the “Ride Description” and the “To Contribute” pages.... they now tell about this years ride.

There may be a few problems with those pages… If you experience a problem, please let me know.... they should be working...but I sometimes make a mistake in the coding.

Until next time....

CityTV interview….

This afternoon I was visited by Ashley Ferraro… a videographer for City TV.  We talked for quite a while and played with my bike...even went for a quick ride up and down the street.  Ashley asked some good questions and we had a great conversation about last years bike ride...this years bike ride...prostate cancer and life with cancer. She interviewed my friend and neighbor, Jean. I think I did a pretty good job of answering the questions.  Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see how she puts it all together.

If things go as planned, it should be aired Tuesday at 6:30 and 11 or 11:30 on our local channel....

I also got a phone call from my friend Scott in Thunder Bay Ontario....  it’s been a while since we’ve chatted.... It was great to hear from him....and even better to hear that he will be coming out in September to join us on our ride from Edmonton to Lethbridge.

We’re still working on the plans, but things seem to be coming together.... Now I just have to put together a letter or two to send out to see if we can get some sponsorship for the ride and/or donations for the Regional Hospital Foundation to go toward the radiation units....  We really have to get some PR done for that as well.... although we have 3 months before the ride, it will go far too quickly.

Until next time....

Hall of Fame…

Yesterday I was inducted into the Winston Churchill High School Hall of Fame....  What an honor!!

There were two of us inducted yesterday.  Igor Shaskin, a local pharmacist who is very active in the community and myself.  There was an assembly held in the gymnasium of the school, with most of the students in attendance.  I was blessed with the attendance of my family, my father, numerous friends and a group of firefighters both on duty and off.  The ceremony was short. Igor was introduced first....and then he did his speech.  I was introduced next.  Brenda Berry introduced me.  She is a current teacher at WCHS and the wife of a fellow firefighter. We have met a few times over the years and collected some info from my web site.  She did a great job giving a quick history and introducing me. I walked to the podium to a standing ovation....  My speech was very brief.... Brenda’s speech brought a few tears, and it took a bit to get going.  I didn’t prepare anything - I find it easier not to.... I think I did okay… everyone said I did, so I’ll just go with that.  I close do another standing ovation.... I felt quite awkward....  it’s just me… nothing special… just an average guy doing what he hopes will help others.... It’s feels pretty good though!!  grin

After the ceremony we headed to a nice luncheon/tea that had been set up for us.  A chance to visit with family, friends and teachers from the past.... it was really cool… One really neat thing was seeing Gary Shilliday.... a teacher I had during those years so long ago.... Anyway...we had run into each other back in the early part of 2004.  I had mentioned to him that I was planning a bike trip for my retirement in 2013....  He said I should try to make it more meaningful by doing it for a cause… I don’t think he meant for me to go about it this way, but as I told Gary yesterday, I found a cause and did my bike ride!

It was a very special day for me....  One I will always remember. I’ll post some pictures soon.

Until next time....
