More family… MORE food.... lots more fun and games..... it’s been an incredible day..... and we didn’t even lose sight of the true meaning of this spectacular day!

Hope you all had a fantastic day....

Latest News….

Over the past almost 3 years I have been trying to get WCB coverage for my prostate cancer.... There is a lot of evidence showing a relationship between fire fighting and prostate cancer, just not pinpointing an exact cause.  Not many men in their 40’s or younger are diagnosed with prostate cancer.... it does happen, just not often.  Over the past 3 years, 3 other fire fighters I have worked with have also been diagnosed with prostate cancer....  2 out of 3 younger than the norm.... coincidence??  I think NOT!!

Anyway.... I was in Calgary in early November taking my last shot at getting coverage.  I had a hearing with the Appeals Commission.... My Advocate and I made a good case, but I didn’t have a good feeling about it.... Some of the questions they asked and comments they made just did not give me any confidence.  Just over 5 weeks later, Friday December 14th, I heard from Advocate.... she got notice of their decision....and it’s as she expected.... They have recommended a review of my case and if not accepted, that it should go before a Medical Board for final decision....  So, although it wasn’t denied, it wasn’t accepted.... so it’s back to waiting to hear when the next round takes place....  I think they are hoping I’ll just go away.... but that will NOT happen!!!  I’m in a fight, not only for myself, but for all fire fighters.

Until next time....

Appointment with Internal Medicine Specialist….

A number of months back, during a complete physical exam, my doctor noticed a heart murmur....  Further testing was done to see what was going on, and when the diagnosis was confirmed I was sent to a specialist.... I went to see the specialist on Wednesday to make sure that things were okay.

After a quick history and exam by her resident, I was examined by the doc herself....  As far as they can tell, the problem is a mild aortic stenosis.... I don’t have any signs or symptoms of a problem so they don’t think it will be a problem.... probably something I’ve had for years....

After we finished discussing everything about the stenosis we talked about my prostate cancer and what’s happening with it… PSA test coming in January.... visit with the oncologist in January.... during all the conversation the topic of my cross Canada bike ride came up.... we had a great talk about it… lots of questions.... it was a nice ending to the visit.

It’s great to get some good news for a change.... and not be rushed out of the docs office either....

Until next time....
