Four Weeks…Plus…

Well here we are… It’s been just over 4 weeks since we started this part of the journey…

Round two of Docetaxel was on Friday, October 19th… I had a flu shot on the 18th...right after my visit with the doc to confirm everything was a go for the Friday treatment.

Friday went very well… I felt great… It started with an infusion of Zometa (Zoledronic Acid)… The doc thought I would benefit from having something to help strengthen my bones as well as the added benefit that it is also used to reduce and delay bone complications due to bone metastases.  The Zometa infusion went well...and quick… Then we started round two of Docetaxel.  Again, the infusion went well… and a little quicker that the last time.  Since I didn’t have an adverse reaction in the first round, it could be infused a little quicker this time.  So all in all, the day went well.  Cindy and I had lunch at the Cancer Centre, although she ran out to grab us something rather than eating what they had to offer...dry sandwiches or soup… We split a pita from The Pita Pit...and I had a Strawberries & Crème Frappuccino from Starbucks… It was great!!

We left the Cancer Centre and ran a few errands before heading home… there, I had my usual afternoon nap and we enjoyed the rest of the evening…

Saturday I woke up feeling good… ready for our usual Saturday breakfast of donuts and Starbucks… Only the donuts didn’t taste as good...and I couldn’t finish my Frapp… NOT right… Things just didn’t taste the same...and my hunger took off… I didn’t feel well at all… We headed home and I crashed for a bit… Still didn’t feel good, but we went out and did a few things… Had lunch… it was ok… drinks and food just didn’t have any appeal… back home to rest… then we sat and watched some recorded tv.... I couldn’t even snack… NOT GOOD!  Bed time came and I was tossing and turning for a bit… then my temp started to climb… 38 is the point at which I am to regard it as an emergency… We watched it clime to 37.8… Sleep finally came…

Sunday I was exhausted… My temperature hovered around the 37.8-37.9 range… I slept for most of the day… ate only enough to keep my stomach settled and drank what I could - which wasn’t near enough!  Sunday was a short day for me… I slept through it and the night…

Monday I felt better, but still not great… food still didn’t taste good, although I did make myself eat… and I took in a lot more fluids… Still felt exhausted, so I slept a lot too.

Each day after that was better… by Monday night my temps were back down to normal.... by Thursday I felt back to normal… I had an appetite… things started to taste good again… I was BACK!!  :o) Another good thing… my left hip hasn’t been as sore since Monday… I’m sure being off of it for a couple of days helped...but I’ve been on increasingly over the week and it still feels less painful!!  I like that… Now it’s time to start stretching and trying to get some strength and mobility back in it… but SLOWLY!!

Here we are on Sunday… I am feeling good… looking forward to a couple of weeks of normal again before round 3…

Until next time....

Docetaxel…Day 21

The first round of chemo with Docetaxel has come to an end… Round 2 tomorrow morning.

Yesterday I went for blood tests… Today I went in to see the oncologist…

Todays visit was a little weird… I really like my oncologist...but today it was like starting over with a new one… he didn’t remember us from just 3 weeks ago… didn’t remember anything about my history… he obviously is a busy man, but the least he could do is browse through my chart before coming in to the examination room… Any way, things are a go for tomorrows treatment.  I was pretty sure everything was fine, because I am feeling really good.  I didn’t get any numbers or anything from the doc this visit… I was more concerned with making sure he knew who he was talking to, and getting medications squared away for this next round. Things are now in order, at least I think they are… We did mention all of this to the nurse and she will follow up to make sure things are better next time around… hopefully the doc will at least know a little more about me next time we are in to see him.

The only thing that is really new right now is that I noticed last night that my hair (and there really wasn’t much to start with) is starting to fall out… While getting ready for bed last night I was standing at the bathroom sink...I rubbed my hand over the top of my head and noticed a number of hairs in the sink after doing so… I did it again watching the sink… I watched LOTS more tiny hairs float down into the sink… Although it was a shock, it is not that big a deal.  I’ve been wanting to shave my head for a while now, but Cindy is not a fan of that, so I haven’t done it… but last night I told her what was happening...then I got the hair clippers out and clipped my hair as short as I could get it without shaving… This is one more thing that really hit Cindy quite hard… not so much the loss of hair, but that it is falling out because of chemotherapy!  We’ll work through this too...in time…

Of course, this morning, the temperature dropped to below zero… I can really feel the difference!!  LOL

Okay...now on to tomorrow… Round 2 of Docetaxel…

Until next time....

Docetaxel… Day 17

We are now just over 2 weeks past my first treatment… Things are going very well!

Nothing has changed over the past 10 days… still a little indigestion from time to time… still a little bit of dry mouth… but nothing else so far.  My energy levels seem to be up a little bit… at least I feel pretty good most of the time. Still need to take my naps from time to time, but overall I feel good.  Hopefully this will continue…

Less than a week to go until the next infusion… This week is blood work on Wednesday… Oncology appointment and prescription re-fills on Thursday… Infusion on Friday… that’s the plan… as long as the tests show that everything is in order, then there should be no problems on Thursday and Friday…

The first few weeks have gone by quickly… but then again, we’ve been keeping busy… Getting a few things looked after around the house… Got some (actually a LOT) of Christmas shopping done...yup we’re getting it done early… Figured I’m feeling pretty good...I have some ideas as to what to get...might as well get it done now!  It feels good to be well on the way to completion for shopping...we’ll get to skip a lot of the frantic shopping in December...and I’ll be able to stay away from all those sick people out shopping when my immune system is even more compromised. I Love Christmas!!  So starting early is a bonus…

I will post again after my next infusion...unless something changes… then I’ll post sooner.

Until next time....

Docetaxel…Day 7

Well, here we are on day 7 of treatment with docetaxel…

I’m still feeling pretty good, but have noticed a little indigestion from time to time as well as my mouth is starting to feel dry a lot more often too… A few tums or rolaids seems to take care of the indigestion… gum, lots of fluids and the occasional candy seem to help a bit with the dry mouth.

I was sleeping a little more too, but seem to be feeling a little less fatigued now… hopefully that will continue.  If not, then I guess I’ll just be doing a little less (and that’s hard when you do nothing… LOL) and taking a few more naps.

So, for one week out things are going pretty good… still lots more to come I’m sure… but NO use worrying about that… I have today to live!

Until next time....
