Here We Are… The End of Summer Is In Sight…

I can’t believe that it has been three months since my last post… I was sure I had posted not too long ago… It’s Official...I’m loosing my MIND!  LOL

What has been happening… Too much to remember and put down in my blog… but I’ll try!

First off… The radiation to my pelvis seems to have worked great… The pain in my butt settled down a little each day after completing the radiation treatments… Today I can say that I have minimal discomfort in the area that was radiated… for the most part, there is no pain or discomfort at all.  Occasionally, if I overdo a walk or twist my hip wrong, then I have some mild pain. Otherwise, it is great!  I do still have pain in the groin region...where the pelvic fracture is closer to. That too seems to be getting better.  Either that, or the pain meds are doing better over time.  Again, for the most part the pain is about a 1 or 2 out of 10...unless I overdo it… then it can reach a 6 out of 10… With the daily use of pain meds, it quickly settles if I just relax and put my feet up for a bit.

Over all… I am feeling great!  I have been able to spend time with family and friends, go for frequent walks and have even been out kayaking and tried Stand Up Paddleboarding.  The weather, although summer started off terrible, has still allowed us to be outside a lot.  The sun (which has been shining more this past month) feels great… and in turn helps me feel more energized… I still need, and take naps… but I feel better overall...my energy is better...my discomfort is less… LIFE IS GOOD!

This year, the 7th anniversary of my cross Canada journey, has been quite fun.  It seems that there is a renewed interest in my ride… I was asked to be a guest speaker at a local event.  George’s Ride For The Jack Ady cancer Centre is in its second year.  It is a motorcycle ride from Lethbridge to Waterton and back.  It starts with a pancake breakfast, then the ride, then a dinner, auction and dance to end the evening.  I was asked to speak at the dinner.  It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done any speaking to a crowd.  It was fun though… and in preparing I was able to relive my ride… and able to share some of the fun things that happened with people who were interested.  I also got to do a short radio spot and TV spot for the event.  It brought back a lot of great memories!!  Thanks to all those who put together the event!

Today was another cool day… I was contacted last week by Kathleen, who asked to do a phone interview with me.  She is an editor with the Health Monitor Network in Montvale, NJ.  Kathleen read my blog and sent me an email to see if I would be willing to talk to her.  So, this morning she called and we talked for just over an hour.  It was great.  She asked some great questions… and really listened to my answers.  She will be writing an article for “Living with Cancer” magazine, which is distributed in oncologists’ offices.  I had a great time chatting with her and am looking forward to reading the article.

Much much more has been going on around here… including finding out we are going to be grandparents!!!!!  YES!! Pretty exciting news.  Especially since when my journey started, the prognosis didn’t make being a grandparent sound too possible… Let me just say, I have been LIVING LIFE!!

Until next time....
