The Answer To My Previous Question…

So, What else can go wrong?!?

Last week I had a bone scan done… Monday I saw the oncologist and had a CT Scan done… What else can go wrong?  Well, of course there is always more that can go wrong...but in this case it is just more bad news.  The bone scan showed further involvement in my pelvis… The doctor didn’t go into how much more involvement there was, but he did say it’s time to stop the Abiraterone and move on to something else… So, at this time I have decided to have another go at chemotherapy with Docetaxel… I really wish there were other, better options at this time, but this is probably the best way to go right now.  This, of course is NOT what Cindy and I wanted to hear.  With the news of being grandparents in a few months time, the last thing I want to be doing is chemo...but if it helps, even a little, then it will be worth it.  I’ll see the oncologist again in a few weeks to get the results of the CT Scan…

For the past few weeks, the discomfort in the ischium area of my pelvis has been increasing… I didn’t notice it so much when I broke the bone in my foot, but now that the foot isn’t as sore, my butt is!!  I will be adjusting my pain meds until I can get comfortable again.  The biggest problem I am finding is the energy to do things… I have been forcing myself to take our dog out for a walk… and it feels good to get the fresh air… Hopefully I will be able to continue with short walks every day...maybe even a few times a day, instead of one good long walk… I’ve got to keep moving!!  With a pelvic fracture, a foot fracture and cancer in my ischium, things just aren’t lining up for me to get a lot of exercise...lol

I will also be getting a PICC line inserted...supposedly the day before I start chemo.  This will make it easier for all of my treatments and future blood draws… Having the PICC line means they won’t have to go digging around to find a vein!

So here we go again!!  Another battle...it gets tougher each time… but I WILL NOT back down!… I WILL NOT give in!… I am READY TO FIGHT!!!

Until next time....

What Else Can Go WRONG?…

I had a great sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning… but then I woke up and things started to go downhill…

I awoke about 6:10 AM Wednesday morning… swung my legs off of the bed and stood up… I headed towards the washroom...first step felt a little weird… I went to take a second step and noticed my left foot was just dangling from my leg...not the way it should be...instead, with the toes pointed down… Not being fully awake, I completed my step...as I put my weight on my left leg I heard a crack and looked down to see my foot folded under...no immediate pain, but some discomfort.  I quickly picked up my leg and my foot was still hanging funny from my leg… I tried to pull my toes up...the end of my foot came up a bit and as I relaxed, they just flopped towards the floor again… I finished making my way to the washroom by dragging my properly placed left foot along the floor.  I sat down and looked at my foot… I tried moving it...and it slowly came to life again… and this time it started to hurt....  VERY weird… I tried to walk...and although it hurt, everything seemed to be working normally again....  I went back to bed for a bit…

When I got up again at 7 everything seemed to be in proper working order… only my left foot HURT a LOT… I hobbled around and told Cindy what had happened… after getting Cindy off to work, I made an appointment to see my family doc.

When I showed my foot to the doctor, he asked what I had done.  I explained everything to him and he got a very concerned look on his face… He started asking me the same questions I had been asking myself… Any other deficits??  Any loss of control of bladder or bowels??  Any back pain or discomfort?? Any weakness in my left leg or right leg??  Other than some weakness in my left leg (from the hip discomfort) the answers were all NO… He explained what he was worried about...checked my last MRI results...and told me what to watch out for… I told him I was WAY ahead of him on that… We talked a bit more and are both concerned about further extension into my pelvis or lower back… but nothing has shown up yet, so we both think it may be as a result of some swelling from the current issues in my pelvis.  If it happens again, it’s off to EMERG!!  The doc wanted to get an x-ray, but the tech was not in… He got me scheduled at a local imaging business.  I had x-rays done at approx. 3:30 PM.  The doc called me shortly after 5PM last night to confirm what we pretty much knew… a fracture of the 5th metatarsal… I can walk on it if it is supported well...and it could take 4-8 weeks to heal...probably longer if it’s like past fractures!!

Luckily we had an AirCast in the house… so I’ve got good support for moving around.  I’ve been keeping it up and iced as much as possible. Today it feels better...at least while I’m off of it!! lol Just to prove to myself that I can still do it, I took our dog to the dog run and walked around for half an hour while she went crazy trying to figure out why I was moving so slowly… At least we got out and got some fresh air…

Hopefully things will heal up quickly...or quicker that I suspect!!

Until next time....
